You Can Be SMART

You Can Be SMART!

SMART is an acronym for:

Specific

Measurable

Attainable

Realistic

Timely

SMART is about goal setting. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

SMART goals give organisation and accountability to your objectives.

SPECIFIC

A goal which is specific has a greater chance of being realized than a goal that is general. The more specific the goal, the more ways you’ll find of reaching the goal.

So ask:

  • What do I want to accomplish?
  • Who is involved?
  • Why am I setting this goal?
  • Where will it happen?
  • When will it happen?

MEASURABLE

Establish results that you can measure at different stages of your goal. When you quantify your progress, you stay on track to reach your target.

So ask:

  • How much?
  • How many?
  • How will I know when it’s accomplished?

ATTAINABLE

Is the goal reasonable and achievable? The goals should be challenging, but not unrealistic.

So ask:

  • What is required to make it happen?
  • What are the constraints that may hinder me?

REALISTIC

The goal must be within what you are willing and able to do. The goal is realistic if you honestly and truly believe that it can be attained.

So ask:

  • How can it be achieved within my resources and my timeframe?

Who sets the standard? You do!

TIMELY

Goals need to be set within a timeframe. This provides a sense of necessity to complete them with purpose.

Set deadlines and dates for all the steps you’re taking to accomplish your goal.

So ask:

  • When?
  • What can I do today?

Stay on your game and stay SMART.
